Solar gear firm announces cuts, preliminary revenue

Solar cell production equipment supplier Amtech Systems said that its workforce has been reduced by 22 percent since its peak on Sept. 30, 2008, and reported preliminary revenue for the fiscal second quarter ended March 31 of $10.5 million.

Cowan predicts chip market to fall 26 percent in 2009

Independent semiconductor market statistician Mike Cowan has revised his 2009 semiconductor annual market estimate to $182.1 billion, which would be equivalent to a market contraction of 26.8 percent. Cowan is predicting that March 2009 sales will come in at $16.93 billion, which would be 32.8 percent down on sales recorded by WSTS for March 2008.
